El almacenamiento de identificación digital de Google Wallet puede hacer que sus futuros vuelos sean más fáciles

Es posible que haya una nueva función en el nuevo Google Wallet que podría facilitar el paso por los puntos de control de la TSA en los EE. UU. gracias al almacenamiento de identificaciones digitales. Más específicamente, la aplicación recién lanzada pronto podría almacenar copias digitales de tarjetas de identificación emitidas por el gobierno. Al menos eso se basa en cadenas de código asociadas con la función detectada en Google Play Services.

La atribución del descubrimiento se otorga a Mishaal Rahman, quien vio los fragmentos de código a principios de esta semana.

Según esos fragmentos, la función admite varias formas de identificación oficial del gobierno. Incluye licencias de conducir y otras tarjetas de identificación emitidas por el estado. Principalmente con un enfoque en permitir que los usuarios «vuelen a través de TSA solo con su teléfono».

Ahora la nueva opción de almacenamiento se suma a varias otras ya presentes en Google Wallet. Es decir, hacer cola junto a tarjetas de fidelización, tarjetas de embarque, tarjetas de vacunación y opciones de pago por toque. Pero no necesariamente serán universalmente útiles.

De hecho, como señaló la fuente, solo un puñado de aeropuertos admite tarjetas de identificación digitales, almacenadas en Google Wallet o de otra manera. Ese también es el caso de Wallet de Apple, una de las aplicaciones que ya admite la función.

Entre ellos se encuentran el Aeropuerto Internacional de Baltimore/Washington (BWI) y el Aeropuerto Internacional de Dallas Fort Worth (DFW). A estas dos ubicaciones se unen el Aeropuerto Internacional Gulfport Biloxi (GPT), el Aeropuerto Internacional Harry Reid (LAS) y el Aeropuerto Internacional Hartsfield-Jackson de Atlanta (ATL). Y para completar la lista, el Aeropuerto Internacional Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers (JAN), el Aeropuerto Internacional de Miami (MIA), el Aeropuerto Internacional Norman Y. Mineta de San José (SJC), el Aeropuerto Internacional Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) y el Aeropuerto Internacional Ronald Reagan de Washington. Aeropuerto Nacional (DCA).

Aparte de esos aeropuertos, o si se usa el tipo de identificación incorrecto, emitido por la autoridad equivocada, la TSA no permite su uso. Además, solo los volantes con TSA Precheck son elegibles donde se pueden usar. Y la aplicación Google Wallet aparentemente indicará mucho, señalando que solo funciona en «puntos de control seleccionados de la TSA».

Sin duda, se agregarán más puntos de control con el tiempo si el programa aún nuevo tiene éxito. Pero queda por ver si ese será el caso. O que las tarjetas de identificación digitales serán útiles en otros lugares. Si es así, la nueva función podría ayudar a Google a clasificarse entre las mejores aplicaciones relacionadas con el dinero del mercado.
