Google Maps ya no está disponible en los relojes inteligentes Wear OS 2

Google es una empresa que no tiene miedo de activar el soporte de aplicaciones cuando quiere. El mes pasado, el gigante tecnológico anunció que dejaría de ser compatible con el navegador Chrome para Windows 7 y 8.1. Ahora, la compañía retiró el soporte de Google Maps y Google Keep de los dispositivos Wear OS 2.

Mientras disfrutaba de su cena de Acción de Gracias, un usuario de Reddit notó que no podía encontrar Google Keep en Play Store mientras usaba su reloj inteligente Wear OS 2. Resultó que la aplicación dejó de ser compatible con Wear OS 2 y dijo «No funciona en su dispositivo» al ver la versión web/móvil de la lista.

No se sabe exactamente cuándo se retiró el soporte de la aplicación, pero es posible que fuera cuando Google actualizó Material You en septiembre, presentando un nuevo mosaico para crear notas o listas.

De acuerdo a 9To5Google, más tarde se descubrió que Google Maps también había retirado la compatibilidad con Wear OS 2, así como con Android 9 y versiones anteriores. Si bien algunos usuarios pueden descargar la última actualización para recuperar el acceso, esto bloqueará cualquier dispositivo que no se espera que obtenga la actualización de Wear OS 3.

Sin embargo, si ya tiene Google Maps instalado en su reloj inteligente Wear OS 2, seguirá funcionando. Este desarrollo, por lo tanto, afecta principalmente a aquellos que necesitan reiniciar su reloj.

Si bien es una noticia desagradable, no sorprende que Google haya comenzado a eliminar el soporte heredado a medida que Wear OS 3 se expande a más dispositivos y Wear OS 2 se vuelve menos relevante.
