Después de muchos años de retrasos, Matter unifica el protocolo de hogar inteligente finalmente está listo para su lanzamiento en el otoño de 2022. Y se ve bien: Apple, Google, Amazon, Samsung y muchas otras marcas están a bordo, algunas han anunciado planes concretos para actualizar dispositivos existentes para admitirlo, y muchos fabricantes de hogares inteligentes parecen estar preparados para implementar su flota de dispositivos compatibles con Matter cuando el protocolo esté activo.

Ahí es donde se sienta Eve, el famoso fabricante de dispositivos domésticos inteligentes solo para Apple Homekit. La empresa asistió a IFA y destacó su voluntad de adoptar Matter una vez que se implemente. Y eso significa que sí, el vasto arsenal de productos conectados de Eve será compatible con Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa y Samsung SmartThings.

El complemento HomeKit de Eve anteriormente solo puede ser controlado por Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa y Samsung SmartThings.

La demostración fue relativamente simple: Eve construyó cuatro estaciones con el mismo enchufe de energía inteligente conectado a una bombilla. Una estación tenía un HomePod Mini, otra un Nest Hub, seguido de un altavoz Echo y un teléfono con Samsung SmartThings. Los cuatro dispositivos pudieron operar el enchufe y encender y apagar la luz.

Ahora se podría decir que esto no es impresionante, ya que hay cientos de accesorios inteligentes para el hogar que ya pueden funcionar con Google, Amazon, Apple y Samsung. La diferencia aquí es que los desarrolladores de Eve no tuvieron que agregar manualmente todas estas integraciones para asegurarse de que sus productos funcionen en todas las plataformas. Acaban de agregar soporte para Matter y ahora su único enchufe de alimentación HomeKit anterior es compatible con mucho más que solo Apple HomeKit.

Teóricamente, el enchufe se puede agregar y controlar con cualquier otro concentrador compatible con Matter, por lo que es probable que también sea compatible con Ikea Tradfri, Lutron Caseta, Philips Hue y muchos más una vez que estos concentradores obtengan el soporte de Matter.

Los desarrolladores de Eve no tuvieron que implementar esto manualmente. Acaban de agregar compatibilidad con Matter.

Eve ya estaba disponible para apoyar a Matter, ya que sus productos se basan en Thread, uno de los pilares principales de Matter. Es por eso que es una de las primeras compañías listas para implementarlo: 14 de sus diversos productos recibirán una actualización inalámbrica para admitir Matter una vez que el protocolo sea oficial. Espere que se actualicen enchufes, interruptores, sensores, cabezales termostáticos y más. Los únicos valores atípicos son las cámaras de la empresa, pero eso se debe a que el protocolo Matter aún no admite cámaras de seguridad.

Además de todo esto, Eve dice que lanzará una aplicación de Android antes de fin de año para atraer a más audiencias de Google/Android.

No hemos visto cómo el protocolo debería simplificar la adición de un nuevo dispositivo inteligente para el hogar a su configuración existente. Tampoco hubo una demostración de la arquitectura de malla de la red Thread, su capacidad para alcanzar objetos más lejanos rebotando a través de objetos más cercanos y su resistencia y adaptabilidad si se elimina un nodo del sistema. Así que aún queda mucho por descubrir sobre la Materia. Lo vigilaremos cuando se lance.
